Our Wines
Where do your wines come from?
All our wines come from the Veneto region of northeast Italy — one of Italy's most diverse and underrated wine territories. We work exclusively with small, family-run producers in the area, most of whom we visit personally.
What does IGT mean on a wine label?
Indicazione Geografica Tipica — the Italian classification for wines that are geographically identified but fall outside the stricter rules of DOC or DOCG. IGT wines are often where you find the most interesting, individual winemaking: producers who want to express a grape or style on their own terms. Several of our most characterful wines are IGT, including BARBARO Rosso and 137 CARMENÈRE.
What does NV mean on a wine label?
NV stands for Non-Vintage — the wine is a blend of grapes from more than one harvest year. This is standard practice for most Prosecco and many sparkling wines. It means the winemaker prioritises a consistent style over a specific year. It's not a downgrade. Read more about NV wines.
What does DOC mean?
Denominazione di Origine Controllata — a controlled designation of origin. DOC wines must meet defined standards for grape variety, growing area, yield, and production method. DOC Venezia and DOC Piave are two of the appellations covered in our range.
Bio & Vegan Wines
What is a biological wine?
A biological (organic) wine is made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilisers. Producers must follow EU organic regulations and be independently certified. Our producer in Mansue, Le Baite, holds the IT BIO 004 certification. Read our full explanation.
What is a vegan wine?
Traditional winemaking sometimes uses animal-derived fining agents (egg whites, gelatine, casein) to clarify the wine. Vegan wines use alternative methods — bentonite clay, for example — so no animal products are used at any stage. Several wines in our range are certified vegan. Browse our vegan wines.
What does 'without added sulphites' mean?
Sulphites (sulphur dioxide, SO₂) are a natural by-product of fermentation and are also commonly added as a preservative. Wines labelled 'without added sulphites' contain only the naturally occurring sulphites from fermentation — no additional sulphur has been used. Our 137 CARMENÈRE and Le Baite Merlot are made this way.
Choosing a Wine
I'm new to wine. Where should I start?
Start with something approachable and low-risk. A Prosecco is always a good entry point — light, fresh, and versatile. If you prefer red, the Cabernet IGT Veneto Orientale is smooth and food-friendly. If you want guidance, get in touch and we'll suggest something based on what you already enjoy.
What wine goes well with Romanian food?
Romanian cuisine pairs beautifully with Italian wines from Veneto. For grilled meats and mici, try a structured red like BARBARO Rosso. For sarmale or slow-cooked dishes, a Merlot or Cabernet works well. For fish and lighter dishes, reach for a Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. For aperitivo or festive occasions, Prosecco is always right.
I'm looking for a wine as a gift. What do you recommend?
The Vinum Mirabile range is our most popular gift choice — each bottle carries a reproduction of a famous painting (Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Vermeer), making it a gift that works for wine lovers and art lovers equally. For a more serious wine gift, the Ad Nonam Passito is a beautiful Italian dessert wine that comes in a distinctive 375ml bottle.
What's the difference between Prosecco and Champagne?
Both are sparkling, but they're made differently, from different grapes, and taste quite different. Champagne is richer and more complex — made in the bottle over 15+ months. Prosecco is lighter and more immediately fruity — made in a pressurised tank and meant to be drunk young. Neither is better. They're just different conversations. Read the full comparison.
